Everyone knows that your library card puts the world of books and literature at your fingertips. But do you know what else is available for checkout at the library? As a lifelong lover of the world built up by such people as industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and sustained by patrons around the world over the years, I have also had the opportunity to work behind the desk at my hometown library and was even more in awe of all they do during my tenure there.

Here’s a list of ten things many public libraries have to offer their patrons, in addition to the vast collections of books and printed materials on the shelves…available to you with just a quick swipe of your card:

  1. Lawn Games
  2. Puppets
  3. Projectors (LCD and overhead)
  4. Telescopes
  5. Sewing Machines
  6. Fishing Poles and Gear
  7. The Newest Issue of Your Favorite Magazines and Local Newspapers
  8. E-Books Ready to Download onto Your Phone or Tablet
  9. Computer Classes Covering the Basics
  10. Movies on DVD and Blu-Ray

For specifics on what your library has to offer, check them out today (pun intended)! Just another great way to fill your weekend and keep the kids busy…
